Exciting news

| Thursday, March 24, 2011 | 0 comments |
This week has been particularly full of good news...
First, my brother - le Photographe - who took this great photo of Corto, his French bulldog, had one of his shots published on a double-page spread (!) in Focus, a Dutch photography magazine (imagine the feeling when you first see your work published in a national mag!).
Then a magazine contacted me to shoot our holidays home in France and Steve's tree house.
This morning, coming back from his run, Steve found a lovely, shabby white wardrobe which is just perfect for our newly painted lounge and on the work-front, I've been getting some really good CVs this week for these two positions. So now I'm really excited to meet everyone for the first round of interviews because I have big plans for BODIE and FOU and I can't wait to get started with a cool, enthusiastic team to make them happen!

(C) Francois Kong

My home in London

| Sunday, March 13, 2011 | 0 comments |
My family moodboard is shaping up...
I'm getting more prints enlarged next week including this one of my brother in Barcelona and one from Christophe (Elodie's husband) pictured here. At the moment, I haven't decided if I lose the black Japanese tape on the wall (the truth is that the masking tape keeps falling off the wall and it's driving me nuts) and do something like this instead or maybe a mix.
I don't want to frame every single photo because I want to retain the informal vibe that our family home has and I like the white space between each photo so right now, I just let it sink.
The two photos were taken by Francois and were my first attempt to interior photo stylism...

Mon family moodboard commence a prendre forme...

My bedroom in B&W

| Monday, March 7, 2011 | 0 comments |
My brother Francois took these photos...
I love no 1 & no 2. For the past week, I have been living in this fur vintage jacket, bought for 20 Euros during my last trip to France (very Isabel Marant according to my friend Mandy) and either this pair of Swedish Hasbeens or that one (they were in the sale!)

Photo 1: Sweet sign bought in New-Zealand, Vintage mirror given by Elodie for my birthday years ago
Photo 2:
Mila's 3-D black glasses, B&W photography book. Photo 3: Print on the wall by Therese Sennerholt, Owl vase by House Doctor, linen headboard made by my mum and I, linen pillow covers from Merci Photo 4: 4-string cluster lightKathleen Hills Photo 5: Vintage fur jacket bought in France for 20 Euros, Swedish hasbeens clogs (see retail therapy here).

Sweet Paul magazine

| Thursday, March 3, 2011 | 0 comments |
The Spring issue of Sweet Paul magazine is out and if you're not familiar with this mag yet, you're missing out on something good because it is one of the best digital magazines out there with inspiring stylism from Paul Lowe, a Norwegian guy who settled down in NYC.
It was Paul's stylism that inspired me to re-vamp our toilets in France with pages from a book and his blog is always full of yummy recipes, beautiful shots and great little crafts projects.
As this is a Special Kids issues, we have a few of our products featured in this issue: the Angel babygro and the Royal Bird rocking chair.
I'm very happy because they've used one of my favourite photos...One I took of Mila when she was 18 months I think (still fitting in her 12 months old babygro...that's just say everything about the height in my side of the family!) on the beach in Cazaux, where we have our holidays home.
She was still a baby, so cute and cuddly, with gorgeous blond curls...the same little girl that came out two nights ago with that!
Mila: "Maman, I don't know what to do, I wanted to have a playdate with Nicolas on Thursday but Jean WANTS to have a playdate with me on Thursday.."
Me: "yeah so...?"
Mila: "...well I don't know which boy to choose..."
I think I'm going to have to tell her Dad to fit an electronic anti-boys thingy at home...I mean Jean has kissed her twice already...on the lips! :-)

Me: "oui et alors ...?"

White stairs....

| Friday, February 25, 2011 | 0 comments |
Half-term is coming to an end...Two more days left in France until our next get-together in April and some great memories of our few days skiing in Andorra with Mila (5 1/2 years old) and Lily (7 years old) before heading back to London (I strongly recommend Andorra to any families who want to go skiing with young children...).
And to top it up, Steve has finally agreed to try white stairs at home so now I can't wait to get back and get rid of our old carpet to get something like this!
I'm also thinking that I may even revamp one of the top bedrooms using Piet Hein Eek's scrapwood wallpaper on one wall...I'm still hesitating between PHE-1, PHE-2 and PHE-3 but I think it would look great against white floorboards. What do you think?

Stairs from Paul Massey's house

The cycle of life

| Saturday, February 12, 2011 | 0 comments |
On our way to their dance class, at the back of the car, Mila summarizes the cycle of Life to her friend Clara....
First, you're a baby..
Then a toddler...
Then une petite fille...
Then a teenager...
Then a mother...
Then a grandmother...
Then a great grand-mother...
And then you die!"

Here we go, that's clear and simple!

(C) Cortoboy

Breast stories

| Wednesday, February 2, 2011 | 0 comments |
This morning Steve got u at 6.30 to take Lucas for a run so I went to get Mila (5 1/2 years old) to have a little cuddle. Here it goes....
Mila: "What is this big?" (she said pointing at my breasts)
Me: "My breasts" (which are not big btw but seemed bigger lying on my side!)
Mila: "Why don't I have breasts"
Me: "Only women have breasts"
Mila: "Marie-Noelle doesn't have breasts" (Marie-Noelle is her teacher - who is going to be over the moon if she reads this)
Me: ":-) I'm sure she has, she is a woman"
Mila: "She is not a woman, she is my 'maitresse' (teacher)
Me: "Well she is a woman, only grown-up girls have breasts and you are still a little girl..."
Mila: 'I'm not a little girl, I'm a teenager"....

I wish you a a great day!

Parisian thoughts and New Year resolutions

| Sunday, January 23, 2011 | 0 comments |
Today, we had a wonderful time in Paris. We went to see the Jean-Michel Basquiat Exhibition which was amazing (and started super well when one staff member asked us to jump the very long queue because we had children with us!) and caught up with some friends who had moved back from London to Paris last Summer. Sadly, Steve and Mila went back to London tonight and while Elodie, Lily and Christophe are asleep, I'm wide awake thinking about stuff...
Last night, we had an interesting discussion about family...Elodie felt that for my mum, I was the one who mattered and I thought, she had a relationship and a trust with my dad, especially when it came to sharing books to read, which I hadn't - which is funny because when we were young and at home, it was the other way round. Anyway...that's what is going on in our heads and it doesn't mean that's the reality because luckily, we come from a pretty loving family.
Elodie and I love each other and we are so in tune that we feel like twins so there was no hard feeling, just an honest discussion how things were for us but it got me thinking...
As Steve and Christophe rightly put it...at our age, it doesn't really matter anymore. Parents are parents. They try their best, sometimes they f...up big time and one feels pretty happy to blame them for the rest of our lives (and I'm glad I'm past that!) and sometimes, well we just accept that they are the way they are. As any of us can drop dead anytime tomorrow, it's really not important if they wind us up from time to time or if they feel the need to give us advices we dont request. What matters is that we make the most of the people we love and how we perceive things. Do we want to focus on the things that frustrate us or can we just embrace their differences, be centrered and love them no matter what?
So I don't know about you but I know that this year, more than ever, I want to make 2011 a year dedicated to family and friends and while I'm at it, I will also endeavour to improve my listening skills and to be less obsessed by work. Voila, it's in writing! :-) and now I'm going to bed because I'm off to Maison & Objet for the next two days and then at MERCI on Wednesday.
What's your new year resolution?

(C) BODIE and FOU. All images are family photos.

My bedroom: Work in progress 2

| Monday, January 17, 2011 | 0 comments |
Given how quiet I'm on the blogfront, you could easily think that I went back to New-Zealand... sadly not! Instead, I'm running around like a headless chicken to get everything sorted before going to Paaris!...
So the good news in a nutshell...we have a new Customer Service Advisor called Jasmin (and she is lovely!), new beautiful things arriving (I love the Tribeca lamp!) and at home, I made some progress with my bedroom!!
Do you remember last year when I said I had 3 days on my own before Xmas to finish my bedroom? Well I did... Rather than getting depressed by the thought of Steve and Mila being on the other side of the world without me, I channeled my energy into DIY and painted our wardrobe in white. I still need to do a second coat on the wardrobe and sort out the picture frames, etc but it's coming together and looking very close to my moodboard.

Chocolate pecan brownies recipe

| Saturday, December 18, 2010 | 0 comments |
Last Tuesday I organized a surprise diner party to celebrate Steve's Birthday*. I got him three vintage gas stations pricing signs from Three Potato Four (no 3, 6 and 5 to tell him that I love him every day of the year), this map from New-Zealand and these fabulous speakers which he loved! The fourth gift (in my book!) was a whole meal cooked by myself which, luckily, was a success...
Mila and I made chocolate pecan brownies for desert and here is the recipe...prepare yourself to die and go to heaven.
*mostly to make up for the fact that in the past 2 years, too busy here with Xmas orders, I totally forgot the first year and wished him a day too late the second year :-(

★★★★
Maman: "Mila..move"
Mila: "no"
Maman: "Mila move!.... I need to add the pecan nuts"
Mila licking the spoon: "No!...this is SO good.."
★★★★

Breakfast with a princess

| Sunday, December 12, 2010 | 0 comments |
This morning I had breakfast with a Princess and her papa here. It was cool....they make fab eggs benedict and the Princess had babyccino all over her face. Then we went to buy a new pair of converse (yellow) because the Khakis from Barcelona are too small and a new pair of red gumboots because these are too small too. In the afternoon, the Princess painted a little white pig with pink paint and sparkling things. It was a really nice day...Hope you had one too. Have a nice evening!

Bonne soiree!

Mon frere

| Friday, September 10, 2010 | 0 comments |
I always talk about my sister Elodie (Bodie) because we are close in age (only 5 years difference), we have similar tastes and of course we have BODIE and FOU but we have a brother!
Francois, 25 years, Warehouse Manager at B&F for the time being (he is doing such a great job that I'm planning to actually chain him up to our packing table) and future photographer.
Today as I was looking at this photo of him taken in Barcelona (pic 2), I couldn't help thinking how gorgeous my kid brother looked.

He was super cute when he was little. He LOVED eating eclairs au chocolat, was bumping into everything and we could always convinced him to give us his sweets. Elodie and I used to make him run to the top of the house to get things for us just by making him believe that it was just to see how fast he was...That was great fun :-)
Then there were the dark years of teenage...and then eventually he became a man and a fine one. Someone who is kind, caring, reliable, still owe me £200 (mouahaha...hysterical French laugh)...I'm glad he found his passion but he is becoming really good at it and I hope like us, he will live his dreams...

Back to school..making pizza

| Tuesday, September 7, 2010 | 0 comments |
Today, it was Mila's first day at her new French school.
I don't know...she is a pretty cool kid, always super happy to go to school but since we were switching from an English-speaking school to a French one, I felt I needed to be with her. Anyway, she came out of it this afternoon saying 'my school is perfect'...pffuu...that's this sorted...
So this afternoon, I taught her how to make a pizza....

I think it would be quite a nice tradition to start for Mothers and Daughters to make pizzas on the first day back at school, don't you think?? What did you do with your kids?

Di Sole & D'azzuro - Da Copiare!!

| Tuesday, July 13, 2010 | 0 comments |
Di Sole & D'azzuro....Don't you love how Italian sounds heavenly musical? It's like a song full of energy and passion, something that tells you "Come and enjoy life, be passionate, love what you do, love what you eat!"

So....yes here we go again...our French home (over 10 pages!!) in the August issue of Casa Facile, an Italian magazine.
And I'm over the moon because they featured some gorgeous shots of Steve & Mila on the beach (now up in Mila's bedroom) and things I particularly love in our home like the kitchen cupboard with its holiday mood board, the French bedroom with its soft hues of blues, the pumice stone garland we brought back from New-Zealand and the very old piece of furniture (which is also seriously missing some drawers) I found at the local hardware shop that was closing down....ummmm I wish I was there (sigh)
I've actually brought back three vintage sheets from France yesterday which I'm planning to dye in soft greys like her to throw on our bed for the Summer so next week, I start working on our home in London and therefore will post less because like we say in France: 'On ne peut pas etre au four et au moulin!' (you can't be in two places at once!)

Oops! Before I forgot...Michael Paul is looking to shoot homes whenever in Europe which have not been featured in magazines yet so if you think yours is worth of interest, send us some pics at leblog(at)bodieandfou(dot)com

Mila's 5th B'day party....Major success

| Wednesday, May 19, 2010 | 0 comments |
Last Sunday, we celebrated Mila's 5th Birthday and it was amazing!
As Mila and I share our lives with the kiwi King of BBQ & Sunday roast, we decided to organise Mila's party with a BBQ afterwards with all the parents to give everyone the opportunity to get to know each other.
Total: 14 kids + 25 adults = a very noisy but happy and memorable afternoon!

The invitation....

The blackboard sign...

The party bags.....

The Gingerbread man decoration....

Mila's cup cakes....
The guests....

Best party activity: Decoration of the Gingerbread man...by far
Best party find: Glitter clutch bag at the £1 shop....a real bargain with WOW factor!
Best creative idea: Decorating cupcakes with Mila's face on. I got the idea from Swiss Miss but added little things that Mila says often on the back of the cards like" "I love you to the moon and back and back to the planet...", "For ever and ever....", "Let's have a huggle" (family cuddle), etc...
Best life saver: Chocolate & strawberry cupcakes from Tesco's Finest range (£1.70 for 2)
Best friends: Mandy, Peyman, Mel, Guillaume, Pete, Barbara, Jerome, Liz, Francois, Julie & Eleonore + anyone else who helped us to make this day truly special. Thank you all
