Exciting news

| Thursday, March 24, 2011 | 0 comments |
This week has been particularly full of good news...
First, my brother - le Photographe - who took this great photo of Corto, his French bulldog, had one of his shots published on a double-page spread (!) in Focus, a Dutch photography magazine (imagine the feeling when you first see your work published in a national mag!).
Then a magazine contacted me to shoot our holidays home in France and Steve's tree house.
This morning, coming back from his run, Steve found a lovely, shabby white wardrobe which is just perfect for our newly painted lounge and on the work-front, I've been getting some really good CVs this week for these two positions. So now I'm really excited to meet everyone for the first round of interviews because I have big plans for BODIE and FOU and I can't wait to get started with a cool, enthusiastic team to make them happen!

(C) Francois Kong

Sweet Paul magazine

| Thursday, March 3, 2011 | 0 comments |
The Spring issue of Sweet Paul magazine is out and if you're not familiar with this mag yet, you're missing out on something good because it is one of the best digital magazines out there with inspiring stylism from Paul Lowe, a Norwegian guy who settled down in NYC.
It was Paul's stylism that inspired me to re-vamp our toilets in France with pages from a book and his blog is always full of yummy recipes, beautiful shots and great little crafts projects.
As this is a Special Kids issues, we have a few of our products featured in this issue: the Angel babygro and the Royal Bird rocking chair.
I'm very happy because they've used one of my favourite photos...One I took of Mila when she was 18 months I think (still fitting in her 12 months old babygro...that's just say everything about the height in my side of the family!) on the beach in Cazaux, where we have our holidays home.
She was still a baby, so cute and cuddly, with gorgeous blond curls...the same little girl that came out two nights ago with that!
Mila: "Maman, I don't know what to do, I wanted to have a playdate with Nicolas on Thursday but Jean WANTS to have a playdate with me on Thursday.."
Me: "yeah so...?"
Mila: "...well I don't know which boy to choose..."
I think I'm going to have to tell her Dad to fit an electronic anti-boys thingy at home...I mean Jean has kissed her twice already...on the lips! :-)

Me: "oui et alors ...?"

**108 Hotte shoppingtips**

| Tuesday, December 7, 2010 | 0 comments |
Since I have Norwegian ancestors, I can tell you that it means **108 Hot shopping tips** in Norwegian and as I'm going through my copy of Elle Interior Norway (kindly sent by the lovely Cecilie Molvær Jørgensen, Deputy Editor), I just realized that I will have to take more photos of this fabulous mag to show you some of the cool interiors they have featured.
But first thing first. What do we have in Elle Interior Norway? Come on...have a guess!! Ouuuiii!!!! La Trop! Look at this...doesn't this bag simply just look the part!
In fact, Cecilie's selection is very much my tastes....
A rolex? Yes that will do thank you very much! A La Trop? Yes thx...got that already! An Owl candleholder? Yep! This owl vase will do. Sibella Court book? Got that too already! A nice carafe? Yes this looks nice in a guest room. Sheepskin sleepers? Yes I've got some too...I know... not sexy but may I remind you that I live with a New-Zealander and last month Steve bought sheepkin sleepers (from New-Zealand) for the whole family and although they are not sexy (really not), they are super comfy!
So basically I have pretty much everything except the Rolex (shame!)....
Pssstt...don't miss Cecilie's bedroom corner on Sunday!

Beyond exhaustion

| Thursday, December 2, 2010 | 0 comments |
that the way I feel...so I'm going to give you the most boring post ever...on stock update...oh yeah!!
First these fab rocking glasses are back in stock. We have them at home and all our friends loved them - not that I was running any kind of market research but it's the general consensus so I would say go for it! It's a nice, unusual present for less than £20 and everybody needs glasses!
These super cute Owl vases are also back but stock is very limited. Same, go for it. I found out that with House Doctor they don't carry stock from one season to another so what is available now, may not be available in 2011 like these great tuniques (once they're gone, they're gone)...and what else?? Ah oui....we've got only one La Tropezienne tote bag with 5" straps and we won't get anymore until 2011 but plenty of 8". Sur ce...bises and good night!

Sur ce...bises and good night!

Inspiring Elle Interior Norway

| Wednesday, December 1, 2010 | 0 comments |
When I was young, our dad used to tell Elodie and I that our family name 'Köng' (to be pronounced Kung) came from Norway...Apparently our great, great grand father was a sailor who settled down in Norway and started a family, blablabla and years later you ended up with me!
Then when I was 16, he turned around and said that after all our surname might have come from Switzerland! Erm... no offence to the Swiss (I love the Swiss especially her) but between having Vikings as ancestors or being Swiss, I just felt that I had more Viking spirit in my blood than Swiss so I stick to my Viking story...
Anyway, I doubt it's why I love so much Elle Interior Norway but I do! I love this mag and their Xmas issue looks just amazing!
PS: And I've just found out this morning that they also featured my favourite bag: La Tropezienne tote bag by Clare Vivier...so happy

Homemade (really) cards

| Monday, November 15, 2010 | 0 comments |
Yesterday, the weather in London was like this. So, while my mum was sewing a school apron for Mila, I got Mila's rubber stamps out to keep her busy and to make some cool cards...Resultat des cacahouetes (can't translate...would mean something like 'total of peanuts'...see I told you... can't translate)
Mila's time spent on making cards: 20 min
Moi's time spent on making cards: 2 hours (I wasn't slow, I got hooked!)

My mum: "Who do you send kisses to?"
Moi: "ummm..to my customers"...ok maybe not, will keep these for the family
And then, I made smaller ones....

And even smaller ones....with lots of love because we never give enough love and beaucoup de merci because it's nice and polite
I know the 'I' in MERCI is an exclamation mark but we lost the 'I'

On our little shop, we already have a beautiful, stylish card like this and if you order any of these, you will probably want to receive something else other than my dodgy handmade card but I think with these Japanese masking tapes from Papermash, they will be nice little touches to go with any of these. It will be only for a few people anyway because I wont have time to do a lot of them and clearly my child doesn't want to be part of any child labour scheme.

★★★★

Blue house in France

| Monday, October 11, 2010 | 0 comments |
I know some of you may have seen these pictures before (and for those who haven't, you will find various links from different mags on the right handside under it's a Mini BODIE and FOU Adventure) but Photographer Michael Paul did such a fantastic job that Home Beautiful Australia decided to feature them over 10 pages...and I love how the magazine lay out the pages.
After all it's the Summer on the other side of the pond so we can all hang on onto Summer memories a bit...
Personally I love this shot of Mimi on the beach holding her father's hand and I was about to write that my Dad would be proud of seeing the tree hut he made out of bamboos but actually no - knowing my dad, he wouldn't care :-)
Feel free to ask me any questions about it if you can't read the article...I could write a bible about this house ;-)

Columbia Road Flower market

| Thursday, October 7, 2010 | 0 comments |
Last month, I mentioned a photoshoot in Columbia Road Flower market for a feature Time Out was doing on creative people shopping at London's best street markets. The article came out yesterday so I picked up a copy on my way to a business meeting and ending up smiling like an idiot in the train stopping myself from saying to complete strangers in the tube "Look! c'est moi la... on the page!"...
A big thank you to the lovely Maggie, Shopping & Style Editor at Time Out who is also behind Chic Little Baby. Here is the article and below a few photos I took at Campania.
Yours, Karine, Design Expert (so they say :-)
★★★★
For botanists Columbia Road Flower Market
Our market insider: Karine Candice Kong, design expert
(I swear I didn't tell them to put this but I LIKE it!)
When should you visit Columbia Road Flower Market?
"The Market starts at 8am every Sunday and it's best to get there as early as possible. It gets very busy if the weather is quite nice. It winds down about 3pm."
What do you head for?
"One of my favourite shops is Vintage Heaven at no 82 - it's the perfect place to snap up vintage treasures. The Yard on Ezra street is a mini fleamarket that has some great things and is always worth a look. Rob Ryan makes intricate and delicate paper-cut and we have some of his work in our BODIE and FOU online store. His shop is called Ryantown. Campania at no 95 is a little greasy spoon cafe a l'italienne, full of charm and inspiration. Ben Southgate at no 4 The Courtyard on Ezra street is a great shop for industrial furniture and old school maps."
What should you avoid?
"Don't buy plants and flowers from the first stall you see. walk around and check out a few stalls before buying to compare prices and quality. If you buy bulk quantities don't hesitate to bargain. Columbia Road is a great place to go if you are doing a garden up."
Top tips...
"Don't forget to take your camera and don't rush. Columbia Road is a unique place with a very special atmosphere, so take your time. There are a lot of interesting characters and it's a very creative place to hang out."

I had a bad day today...

| Tuesday, October 5, 2010 | 0 comments |
Getting frustrated with things at work, necessary but not fun...
Getting impatient with the universe, with time, with everything...
Trying to be thick-skinned about things/comments...
When I'm at home, I do some DIY/sewing/or nothing
When I'm at work, I re-design the site...endlessly.
It takes my mind off things so here is our new homepage...

Tomorrow is another day, tomorrow will be good, fun, positive and inspiring...
Have a lovely evening everyone. xoxo

A corner of my bedroom...

| Sunday, October 3, 2010 | 0 comments |
I was hoping to show you this weekend the headboard I made with my clever mum but Steve, my friend Mel and I went running 10K for Cancer Research this morning (I did 10K in an hour & 5 min!) and I didn't have time to take decent pictures so in the meantime here is a corner of my bedroom with the gorgeous chunky knitwear I got from G-Star yesterday, which looks a bit like this one and is incredibly comfy...
The mirror below was a gift from my sister Elodie, 15 or 20 odd years ago and I love it to bits.
Have a lovely Sunday!

★★Little update★★
I'm starting a little series to share with you each Sunday, the favourite things in the bedrooms of all the creative, funny, touching women I've came across over the past few years since I started blogging. So don't be surprised if you get an email from me in the next few days...and if you think your fabulous room slipped through my net, feel free to email me at leblog(at)bodieandfou(dot)com
Next Sunday, we will see Claude's corner and then the week after Desiree. If I could take photos like Claude and move in in Desiree's flat, I would be a very happy bunny.
