| Sunday, February 13, 2011 | 0 comments |
Bonjour!
Well... 'A corner of my bedroom' series is finally back and today I'm very pleased to share with you the private space of Irene, Author of Bloesem and BloesemKids, two awesome blogs everybody love and if you don't know them yet, you must visit them! Irene is great Dutch lady who also lived in NYC and now is based from Kuala Lumpur. I love her fresh take on design and if you have kids, BloesemKids is a must-go destination.
★★★★
Bonjour!

★★From Irene★★
"The Master bedroom! That is where my husband and I are currently sleeping…a little over a year ago we moved to a real house after living in apartments all our lives and while searching for this house we saw many 'huge' master-bedrooms, apparently very important here in Asia. For us it feels like having a second living-room and I must say we spend quite some time here…Sunday mornings, evenings and when the family wants to watch a movie…the only real TV in our house is in our bedroom. I have tried to make it cozy by adding some nostalgia and sentimental accessories…like a patchwork blanket that I made myself from fabrics that my mom gave to me, my photo-album from when I was a baby, some vintage vases and the old telephone from the Netherlands. A picture of me and my sister is hanging above my bedside table and only recently I added the textile fabric wall decal (yes also made them myself). I love my new necklaces from Kristina Klarin and the yellow hanger is there to give some color to the wall. I wish was allowed to paint the floor black or white….""

DIY project: wooden headboard

| Saturday, February 12, 2011 | 0 comments |
For a while, I have been wanted to share with you how I double the height of a basic Malm bedframe by IKEA and and covered it up with grey linens to create a stylish, French-looking headboard for less than £60. Unfortunately the photos I took at the time are pathetic and needs work so in the meantime, I thought I would share this headboard done by House Tweaking. I love wood at home especially recycled wood so I think this one is a great way to make a statement in your bedroom and to create a modern, rustic look.

Alternatively, you can source an old French iron bed and use the top and bottom of the bed to create a headboard for two single beds which is what I did in Mila's bedroom, in our house in France (see below).

My bedroom: Work in progress 2

| Monday, January 17, 2011 | 0 comments |
Given how quiet I'm on the blogfront, you could easily think that I went back to New-Zealand... sadly not! Instead, I'm running around like a headless chicken to get everything sorted before going to Paaris!...
So the good news in a nutshell...we have a new Customer Service Advisor called Jasmin (and she is lovely!), new beautiful things arriving (I love the Tribeca lamp!) and at home, I made some progress with my bedroom!!
Do you remember last year when I said I had 3 days on my own before Xmas to finish my bedroom? Well I did... Rather than getting depressed by the thought of Steve and Mila being on the other side of the world without me, I channeled my energy into DIY and painted our wardrobe in white. I still need to do a second coat on the wardrobe and sort out the picture frames, etc but it's coming together and looking very close to my moodboard.

A corner of my bedroom: Annaleena Karlsson

| Sunday, December 19, 2010 | 0 comments |
Good morning!
This is the last post of 'A corner of my bedroom' series for 2010 but the series will be back in January because I still have plenty of beautiful bedrooms to show you from around the world.
Today, I'm very happy to share with you the bedroom of Annaleena, talented stylish and inspiring blogger of HEM. I totally fell in love with her stunning Countdown to Xmas tree and since then lost myself in the delights of her blog and her gorgeous home (I'm waiting for an invitation....:-).
Since it's the last one of the series, I would like to thank you for all your kind and inspiring comments. I'm not as good at the end of the year to leave comments back because it's just terribly busy here but I will catch up in the New Year.
Also next week to end the year on a very positive note, I have 2 good news!
First the BODIE and FOU January Sale will kick off on 23/12/2010 and you should know that the UK government is increasing the flipping VAT to 20% on 4th Jan. 2011 so it's best to order anything you want/need before 4th.
The second great news is that we've teamed up with one of my favourite magazines: Living Etc to get the BODIE and FOU followers the chance to win a one-year subcription to Living Etc...Yep! How cool is that?! (details to follow on Tuesday)
★★★★
Bonjour!
Living Etc...Yep! C'est pas cool ca?! (details du jeu-concours Mardi prochain)

★★From Annaleena★★
"Our bedroom is a wonderful place. A place for rest and romance. I like the simplicity and scandinavian pureness in our bedroom. It´s light, white and calm. Recycled items and jewellery are the pieces that dictates my bedroom style and gives the room that boho chic style that I love. My colours, white and black are dominating. The room is naked and easy just like the rest of our house, its just a simple bohemian modern bedroom. Good night. Love Annaleena"

God morgen!
It's not a secret...I love Elle Interior Norway because it is a very inspiring magazine and on top of this, they've featured my favourite bag as one of their HOT BUY! So this morning I'm very excited to share with you Cecilie's bedroom who is Elle Interior Norway's Deputy Editor. Her home was recently featured in Elle Interior Norway so we also get beautiful images taken by Trine Thorsen. I'm in love with Cecilie's bed...this blend of textures, fabrics and hues of creams and greys are just so inviting and aren't these little porcelain figures adorable?
★★★★
God morgen!

★★From Cecilie★★
"I am in love with my bedroom. Utterly and completely. The grey that covers all of the walls is perfect, making it cool and breezy in summer and warm and snugly in winter. Also, I love going to sleep being surrounded by things I care about, like the sculpture of a child I inherited from my grandmother, the alabaster egg bought on a trip to Italy and all the white porcelain figurines I’ve picked up at flea markets, bought new or been given by my other grandmother «just because they are so ‘you’». I like the fact that the Hee chair from Danish brand Hay is so strikingly «modern», almost cold, compared to the softness of the rest of the room. All in all? Utter bliss"

Next week: come and see Annaleena's bedroom corner

A corner of my bedroom: Casalil

| Sunday, December 5, 2010 | 0 comments |
Are you ready for some cheerfulness? Because this morning, I'm taking you to see the bedroom corner of Casalil and behind Casalil, there is Laurence, a cheerful, full of energy French blogger from Aix en Provence who lives in Lille (hence Casalil).
Laurence has a great blog on Marie-Claire Maison where she shares her 'coup de coeur', her life, pictures of her holidays home in the South. She is also married to Laurent, a great photographer whose work is currently exhibited at Galerie Le Reverbere in Lyon. His series Stations has also been published and sadly has been copied by CANON in their latest European campaign (someone is going to be in trouble...)
Last month, I wrote here "A home should reflect your style, your lifestyle, your personality, your travels and everything you love in life" and Laurence's home is certainly a reflection of her love for travels, colours and her positive attitude which will do everyone in Europe a world of good since it's currently pretty cold and grey out there!
★★★★

★★From Laurence★★
"Here we go..a few photos of our bedroom just after a pillow fight this morning...my bedroom is...comfy, colourful....with lots of things brought back from my travels. The room is big (45 sqm). We've apinted one of the wall in 'aubergine' (kind of mulberry) to give this room reserved for night time, a cosier touch. One of the wall is painted in cherry red like the alcove (tokonoma) in Japan, like a breath....makura.
And in a bedroom, there is of course lots of corners...a fireplace with brick and wood which welcomes our laughing buddha, a gift from a antique dealer that told us that if we were striking the Buddha's belly every day morning, our days would be filled with joy...
And the 'love bed' from Shangai where we also stay to read nice stories to the kids and then another corner...a smaller room which we use as an office and in which we're piling all our memories from past and future travels..."

A corner of my bedroom: Emma Cassi

It's very cold in London this morning and while Mila is eagerly waiting for the snow to arrive, I'm really happy to share with you the bedroom corner of French Designer Emma Cassi in London who I mentioned here before. As I was looking at the beautiful photos Emma sent me, I felt really calm. Her bedroom comes across as being very soft, calm and warm...almost soothing and intemporel and the beautiful crib of Hope, her gorgeous baby girl and Hope's little tiny feet suddenly made me feel a bit broody, something I hadn't felt for a while...
Emma Cassi is a shining example of a someone who manages to be extremely talented at everything she does. As a jewellery designer, Emma makes unique, feminine pieces that have been stitched, beaded and embroidered by hand with vintage sequins, Japanese glass beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, Swarovski, and gemstones and you can see her whole collection here or at Anthropologie. She also makes gorgeous paper gardlands, has recently done an exquisite range of Christmas cards for Designers Guild, she is a talented Stylist and I'm totally in love with her first (and stunning!) photoshoot for Papier Mache. If you are in London next week, you are in luck as Emma is having a Jewellery sale next week (see details below)
★★★★

★★From Emma★★
"I like to display beautiful objects for their colours (grey, faded pinks...) in our bedroom.
...the paint is called linen from Laura Ashley,

...collection of ceramics from vintage shops and Japan (Kyoto and Kamakura)
...the white pots and plates are handmade with self-dry clay and printed with lace (I have made them for a exhibition in Japan in 2 dimanche
...fishes: Japanese painting from Kamakura antique shop.
I love to display jewellery on the wall...from vintage shops and the V & A
Hope is 6 month and her bed is in our bedroom. It is a vintage crib, with a silk heart from Petit Retro

My bedroom: Work in progress

| Monday, November 22, 2010 | 0 comments |
There is nothing better than a good night sleep to feel upbeat again :-) So here is the wall I painted on Sunday in Pavilion gray from Farrow and Ball. It's a very soft, soothing grey which works perfectly in a bedroom. And against the plaster works, it reminds of the Hausmann style seen in apartments in Paris. My electrician hung this beautiful light for me and next week, I will change the switch to a brushed stainless-steel one and paint the door and skirting boards in white... Do you like it?

A corner of my bedroom: Designers' Block

| Sunday, November 14, 2010 | 0 comments |
This morning, I'm very happy to show you Di's bedroom from Northumberland. Di was the founder of this fabulous website and I remember saying to Steve back in 2005: How does she do it? Her site is amazing and she is everywhere! Funnily enough, a year later, she emailed me as she was planning a career change and one thing leading to another, Steve and I ended up acquiring WhereDidYouBuyThat.com while Di went on to launch successfully her own furniture range with Ghost Furniture. She has also a great blog: Designers' Block where you will find a lot of quirky stuff. At first glance, Di looks like Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous but she is really good fun, very knowledgeable about design, has a refreshing non-sense approach and I love her to bits.
★★★★

★★From Di★★
"The Teddy & Mask: This was passed down to me when I was born so I only know it is older than 59. His name is Little Ted, not very imaginative but very descriptive. The mask was sent to me by Gentry de Paris as a gift for featuring it on my blog, again very descriptive.
The Bed - Our bed is huge and has 2 separate mattresses so we can't feel each other moving around. I like it's plainness, I hate over fussy beds they take too long to get into.

The Ghost Cupboard - The place I keep all my little fabric finds for Ghost Furniture. The baskets on top are from left to right - a vintage find, Cabbages and Roses and Lulu Guinness. They hold passementerie finds from Paris. I love rummaging through these things, so inspirational.

Reading in Bed - The only chance I get to read is when I go to bed so I need everything at hand. The little shelves were given to me by my friend Tara in Paris, they are from Agape. I have the book I am reading on the top shelf and the other shelves hold the ones I am about to read. How organized is that? My best friend bought me the lamp when we were on a trip to The South of France from a gorgeous little shop in Saint-Tropez.

Hermes Boxes and French Daybed - Happily the Hermes boxes do contain Hermes Scarves, works of art to wear. The French daybed was given to me by my friend Tara in Paris and all my little grandchildren have slept in it and up to now none have woken up in the middle of the night. Magical!

Lamp room gray or Pavilion gray?

| Sunday, November 7, 2010 | 0 comments |
I apologize...this is going to be a long post but they always are when they are personals...
For some people, bedrooms are their sanctuary and I envy this. For me it is a place to sleep. Having too much energy to spend, I often feel that lay-ins at weekends are wasting my time when there is a lot of creative things I could do, so I have been struggling with what to do with our bedroom to transform into a space I would love to relax.

I wished I had time to source one of these gorgeous French chandeliers in France but not this year so I have been letting these gorgeous bedrooms in grey, especially this one, sink in and on Saturday afternoon, while going through all my interiors mags, I came across again Paula Leen's bedroom which somehow I had missed first time around. Suddenly the penny dropped. Forget French glamour, I will go for inspired simplicity
a la BODIE and FOU.

Image: (C) BODIE and FOU, magazine Living Etc, necklace (my own)

The challenge was then to decide which grey to use and where to use it. It had to be different from the grey used in Mila's room. Last but not least, would it work better as a feature wall behind the new linen bedhead I made with my mum or on the wall-to-wall built-in wardrobe?
This is important because I loathe painting wood and I can't get started until I'm really sure (let alone the fact that I really wanted it to look like this but Steve is freaking out about house prices going down and the costs of replacing all the doors to achieve Abigail's look wouldn't make sense so, for the time being, they will remain the way they are).

Image: (C) BODIE and FOU, white sunglasses from The Little White company

So after hours of reflection, I came up with this look....Soft greys, white bed linens, gray throw, white ceramic lighting....

Image: (C) BODIE and FOU, gray Grafton cotton knit throw from The White Company, Black & white prints from Therese Sennerholt, White cluster light by Kathleen Hills, Tribeca table lamp from WhereDidYouBuyThat.com, Familia tableware by Normann Copenhagen, ceramic owl vase by House Doctor DK

So despite the title, I have already made up my mind (sorry!) regarding the hue of gray I'll be using but I would love to know what you think of this, how you decorated your room and how you get the inspiration...
★★★★

A corner of my bedroom: Ellie Tennant

| Sunday, October 31, 2010 | 0 comments |
Today, I'm delighted to share with you Ellie's bedroom in London. As Deputy Shopping Editor of Ideal Home magazine and Blogger for Home Shopping Spy, Ellie has accessed to the latest, on trend interiors goodies on a daily basis so I think I was expected something more contemporary but her bedroom took me by surprise in a good way. Ellie's bedroom is full of gorgeous vintage treasures (typewriter, camera, buttons, books) that she mixed with new things like the I Love you blogs and coffee print she got from us last year (sadly we no longer in stock), a glass dome and the latest interior books...gorgeous!

★★From Ellie★★
"One of the alcoves in our bedroom is now my 'Vintage Tat' corner. I collect so many bits and bobs at car boot sales and markets that it's an ever-evolving display. My boyfriend Rob says the 'creepy' shoe lasts look as though they might start tap dancing at midnight, but on the whole he's very tolerant of my junk. The shelves are just the LACK ones from Ikea which are cheap and very strong if you fix them to the wall with massive screws. The Singer sewing machine was £5 in a car boot sale, I bought my lovely typewriter for £1 on eBay (it was listed as 'not working' but has always typed perfectly and the vintage camera was in a box of stuff I picked up at an auction. I keep all my favourite books on these shelves too. My bedroom is my sanctuary - especially at the moment as we're re-decorating and renovating the downstairs rooms so this is my refuge from the dust and chaos. There is nothing better than reading the papers in bed on Sunday morning with Radio Four, a cup of peppermint tea and a cat or two hanging out. Wow, I really am a party animal!".

Today, I'm showing you Victoria's bedroom from San-Francisco. As Editor of the fabulous Sfgirlbybay, Victoria needs no introduction but in case you've just came back from a trip on the moon, let me tell you a bit more about this amazing person.
As well as being the curator of one of the West Coast’s leading interior design blogs, Victoria is also a great photographer, talented stylist and a flea market queen and I love her style...a bit boho and always relaxed and welcoming. She kindly featured our home in France and suggested we do a house swap for the holidays which I would love to do!

★★From Victoria★★
"I love this little corner of my bedroom as much for the sentimentality as for the bargains I pulled together to create the look. The dresser was a beat-up old secondhand dresser I sanded down and painted a rich black lacquer. The mirror was a $20 find I bought when Urban Oufitters was selling the store fixtures they used for display, and I love how it reflects back the rest of the room. The Eiffel Towers are flea market finds, and remind me of my favorite city. And the dish holds all my mementos and favorite jewelry, including my Grandmother Lucy's locket."".

Bonjour! Today I'm showing you Desiree's bedroom from Amsterdam.
When I came across Desiree's blog Vosges Paris, I had a massive blog crush and liked everything about her blog... her perfect selection of links to other fabulous blogs and shops, her coup de coeur, its relaxing layout and soothing hues of grey and white and I felt in love with her home...A space she is renovating slowly but beautifully and which blends beautifully white at home with industrial and vintage designs.
This is one Lady I will definitively go shopping with next time I'm in Amsterdam!

Through It's Oh and Petits Bonheurs, you will discover precious little moments in life that are beautiful, poetic and inspiring...From back to school, a rainy weekend, the end of Summer, the arrival of Autumn, a gorgeous bloomer or a beautiful dress, Claude makes everything look amazing, gentle, happy...and I know you are going to fall in love with her world.

★★From Claude★★
"I'm in love with this green bedspread from Caravan because it's a gift from my man. It's my favourite corner because it looks like everything is tidy...Incidentally it's a bit of a constant for me...shooting only things at home that look tidy".

Grey bedrooms...love love love

In our home in France, I painted one wall in dark grey using Down Pipe by Farrow and Ball (see other view here), leaving the other three pristine white. The contrast of this dark, deep colour against the rest of the room gave this guest bedroom not only a modern, boutique feel but it also enhanced the basic Malm bedframe from Ikea. A trick I used again in Mila's bedroom and you will see that a dark colour works also very well in a child bedroom. Ikea has always some fantastic pieces of design but like fashion, it is important to mix pieces from the high-street with designer labels and vintage finds to give your style and your home a personal touch.
Once your canvas (walls) is ready, then it is just a matter of adding a few decorative accessories and beautiful prints to give your room the final touches.
I think that if I had a bedroom like any of these gorgeous bedrooms in our home in London, I would probably spend my day writing posts from my bed for ever and ever (and incidentally becoming a huge frog...). No seriously, don't you love how the creased white linens look against the grey wall? And grey against grey?
For those in need of a more romantic feel, the two-tone wall will work wonder and will be a less daunting approach to introduce grey in the bedroom.
It's also interesting to see how linens and floorings can change the whole look of a room, how white floorboards soften the whole look while a dark grey wall appears more contemporary...something to remember for future projects.
